So I am sitting here thinking about exactly what I would do if Hillary were to win the nomination. I also did some thinking about the exit polls where people said they would not vote for one candidate or the other if they were to get the nomination.
Bullshit!
Seriously, what the fuck would possess a Democrat to suddenly turn and vote for John McCain? I don’t know about you, but I absolutely do not want a Bush 3rd term which if McCain is elected is exactly what we would have. I have stayed pretty quiet about this, but enough is enough and I am going to come right out and say that if Hillary gets the nomination or is Obama’s running mate I will absolutely vote for her because here is the deal. I do not like Hillary’s personality, but when looking at her planned changes and Obama’s planned changes they are practically the same. I actually think she could help Obama win over the white, working class vote that he so critically needs to get. She could also be helpful in Florida.
Now I absolutely do not want her getting the nomination as I have been an Obama supporter from day one and have donated money to further his campaign, however, I still would like to see a Democrat in the White House this next time around to see if they can turn this country around.
I welcome comments on this post as it could be a sticky subject.
Last night Hillary Clinton absolutely trounced Barack Obama in West Virginia. The media took their obvious tact by all of a sudden turning into Hillary lovers, which they tends vary with who wins. Gee who would have thought? Since then two major things have occurred.
First a quote by Hillary Clinton:
“I’m going to work my heart out for whoever our nominee is. Obviously, I’m still hoping to be that nominee, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that anyone who supported me … understands what a grave error it would be not to vote for Sen. Obama.”
To me this is a big deal for Obama because of all the people saying they would not vote for him if he is nominated. I think if Barack is the nominee, which is becoming more and more likely by the day if not already a done deal, Hillary should continue “working for the nominee,” and saying this exact thing to those who supported her through the primary and caucus season. It is crucial that Obama works to fix the areas that he is weak, however, Hillary can significantly help him in this area.
Secondly, Senator John Edwards gave his official endorsement for Barack Obama at a rally in Michigan this evening. To me this is huge because both candidates have been working on Edwards as if his endorsement could be a deal breaker and tonight that happened. The endorsement did two things. First it sent a message to the super-delegates saying “Hey, a major player in the Democratic party has just gave his support for Obama.” This should lead to more super-delegates in the coming days for Barack. The second thing it did is blanket Hillary’s win in West Virginia. Take that!
The one question I would have is could we see an Obama - Edwards ticket? At the same time could we see an Obama - Clinton ticket. I think one of these is a huge possibility and it could be either. Anyway I will leave you with that thought.
Barack Obama today picked up five super-delegates, two yesterday and four on Wednesday effectively closing the gap between him and Hilary to roughly 3 super-delegates. Personally, I don’t see these endorsements for Obama stopping in the coming weeks. His victories on Tuesday night seem to be the breaking point, and yes I know he lost Indiana, but he made the percent significantly smaller than initially anticipated. Losing by 22,000 votes in a state that heavily favored Clinton is no small feat to be overlooked.
Now as I do with all these posts I just want to throw out the notion that Hillary should step down and stop being such an idiot about this. She has lost the nomination and it is of her own doing. She is out of money and from her speech on Tuesday night she may be out of energy as well. The coming weeks will only show her continuing to slip and lose respect all at the same time. The democratic party needs a leader at this point and the unification process needs to begin, otherwise we could be terribly divided come general election time.
To be frankly honest I am getting tired of having to write posts like this, but I feel it is my duty to continue to urge this thing to a close. I previously gave my endorsement to Barack Obama, as if my say actually matters, but I will stick with him through this entire process and I will continue writing these posts until Hillary drops out. I apologize to my readers, but its just something I have to do feel like I am making a difference.
On a side note this is my first post written with MarsEdit!
“This fall, we intend to march forward as one Democratic Party, united by a common vision for this country,” he said. “Because we all agree that at this defining moment in history — a moment when we’re facing two wars, an economy in turmoil, a planet in peril, a dream that feels like it’s slipping away for too many Americans — we can’t afford to give John McCain the chance to serve out George Bush’s third term. We need change in America.”
-Barack Obama
History was made last night in stunning fashion. With Clinton leaing Indiana by 20% or so, Obama was able to cut that lead down to a whopping 2%, a mere 20,000 votes, effectively shutting Clinton down and making her run for the nomination mathematically impossible.
Sadly, it appears Clinton will remain in the race and push forward rather than drop out like she should have done a long time ago. Personally, I think May 20th after the Oregon voters have their say this will be totally 100% over.
As you know yesterday was the primary in the state of Pennsylvania. All the news organizations, of course, talked it up as if it was the biggest primary yet. I agree to the fact that it was an important primary, however, looking at the numbers afterwards not much has changed. Hillary is trailing in both the delegate counts, which includes the superdelegates, and the popular vote. This win just gives her an excuse to contiune dividing the Democratic party and allowing John McCain to gain more momentum as he runs through primary and caucus season uncontested. As a matter of fact McCain is already on to the Presidential portion of the campain, which at the moment gives him a theoretical advantage.
Through the rest of this week we should see a number of endorments, which have already began with the Governor of Oklahoma endorsing Obama. I would love to see what John Edwards and Al Gore have up their sleeves because those two endorments could be huge. I will be commenting further as the week continutes and hopefully I have some good news to report.
Thank you to my colleague over at ebfryer.com for bringing this to my attention. What Bill is talking about sounds vaguely like a candidate in the race. Hmmmmmmm…..I wonder who that could be?
